4D simplicial quantum gravity with a nontrivial measure.

We study 4d simplicial quantum gravity in the dynamical triangulation approach with a non-trivial class of measures. We find that the measure contribution plays an important role, influencing the phase diagram and the nature of the (possible) critical theory. We discuss how the lattice theory could be used to fix the quantum measure in a non-ambiguous

Non-Trivial Ultraviolet Fixed Point in Quantum Gravity

The non-trivial ultraviolet fixed point in quantum gravity is calculated by means of the exact renormalization group equation in d-dimensions (2 ≃ d ≤ 4). It is shown that the ultraviolet non-Gaussian fixed point which is expected from the perturbativelly ǫ-expanded calculations in 2 + ǫ gravity theory remains in d = 4. Hence it is possible that quantum gravity is an asymptotically safe theory ...

Topology in 4d Simplicial Quantum Gravity

We simulate 4d simplicial gravity for three topologies S, S S and S S S S and show that the free energy for these three xed topology ensembles is the same in the thermodynamic limit N4 !1. We show, that the next-to-leading order corrections, at least away from the critical point, can be described by kinematic sources.

Scaling Behavior in 4D Simplicial Quantum Gravity

Scaling relations in four-dimensional simplicial quantum gravity are proposed using the concept of the geodesic distance. Based on the analogy of a loop length distribution in the two-dimensional case, the scaling relations of the boundary volume distribution in four dimensions are discussed in three regions: the strong-coupling phase, the critical point and the weak-coupling phase. In each pha...

Topologically non-trivial quantum layers

Given a complete non-compact surface Σ embedded in R, we consider the Dirichlet Laplacian in the layer Ω that is defined as a tubular neighbourhood of constant width about Σ. Using an intrinsic approach to the geometry of Ω, we generalise the spectral results of the original paper [1] by Duclos et al. to the situation when Σ does not possess poles. This enables us to consider topologically more...
